2024 Limited Release Viognier
Vintage
The 2024 Vintage in Wrattonbully was early relative to recent vintages, but back to a more traditional timeframe. Winter started out wet however began to dry up in early Spring leading to an early budburst. Hail and disease pressure caused some angst in the region however good vineyard management allowed our vines to avoid most of the loss. The weather mostly dried up towards the end of Spring allowing the fruit to ripen well. Most fruit was picked in March with a heat spike causing all varieties to ripen quickly. 2024 wines from the region will show excellent fruit purity with characters aligning to a cooler vintage.
Vineyard
Our Viognier is grown on well-drained fertile red clays located in Wrattonbully, S.A. The soil depth here is quite low with limestone deposits frequently breaking the surface. This results in limited root penetration, resulting in an excellent concentration of fruit flavour.
Winemaking
Fermented on full solids in seasoned cigar oak, the wine was kept on lees with intermittent bâtonnage through till late August when it was prepped for bottling with minimal fining and light filtration.
Tasting Notes
Bold and full, this wine is far from elegantly styled, it is a white of brutish personality. Winemaking artefact, although generous, is second fiddle to the true terroir of Wrattonbully and this bold varietal. Drink within 5-6 years.
